Increased-Depth Coils for Low-Temperature Heating Systems

Energy efficiency, decarbonisation, and low-temperature operation are now central to modern heating design. With more projects adopting heat pumps and condensing boilers, it’s essential that heat emitters are engineered to perform efficiently at reduced water temperatures.

BOSS™ Copperad addresses this challenge through the use of increased-depth coil designs, including 3-row and 4-row coils, across its heating range.

Why Increased-Depth Coils Matter

Lower water temperatures improve system efficiency but reduce the amount of heat available for transfer. Increased-depth coils overcome this by providing a larger heat exchanger surface area, allowing more heat to be extracted from the water without increasing flow temperatures.

In simple terms, deeper coils enable:

  • Reliable heat output at lower water temperatures
  • Improved system efficiency
  • Better alignment with decarbonisation targets

Flexible Coil Options for Modern Systems

BOSS™ Copperad offers a range of coil configurations to suit different heat sources and system designs:

2 row coils

Suitable for conventional boiler systems operating at higher temperatures (around 80°C).

3 row coils

Ideal for condensing boilers or applications where enhanced output is required at reduced water temperatures. A balanced option for systems transitioning to lower-temperature operation.

4 row coils

Designed specifically for heat pumps and low-temperature systems, delivering effective heat output even at very low flow temperatures. Best suited to large industrial or heavy commercial environments.

Designed for Low-Temperature Performance

When paired with high-efficiency EC motor-driven fans, increased-depth coils allow heating systems to operate closer to their optimum efficiency. This supports:

  • Lower energy consumption
  • Reduced running costs
  • Improved system control and responsiveness

Rather than forcing the heat source to compensate, the emitter itself is optimised for low-temperature operation.

Improved Comfort and Heat Distribution

Operating at lower water temperatures with increased-depth coils can also help reduce temperature stratification, particularly in larger spaces. This results in:

  •  More even heat distribution
  • Improved occupant comfort
  • Reduced hot and cold spots

Application Within the BOSS™ Copperad Range

In the BOSS™ Copperad Unit Heater and Fan Convector range, coil depth is selected to match the system temperature and application:

  • 3-row coils are commonly used for low-temperature boiler systems
  • 4-row coils are typically specified for heat pump applications

To maintain safe and efficient operation, 4-row coils should not be used with conventional high-temperature boilers, as this can result in excessively high leaving air temperatures.

Ready for Low-Temperature Heating

As low-temperature systems become the standard, coil selection is a key part of heating design. Increased-depth coils allow BOSS™ Copperad heaters to deliver reliable, efficient performance in demanding environments, without compromising comfort or sustainability.

With flexible coil options, proven low-temperature performance, and robust construction, BOSS™ Copperad solutions are ready to support today’s projects and tomorrow’s energy standards.
